The devolution of land and resources also included the devolution of legacy contaminated sites as well as active leases and dispositions that were previously under federal jurisdiction. Following devolution, indigenous governments and territorial and federal departments collaborate and communicate on related issues through a waste sites management committee. PlanIt North worked with the Sahtú Secretariat to help them understand and document a current inventory of regional liabilities so that their interests can be more strongly represented and communicated at this forum.
